For many years Eromey had been plagued by the Barbarian invasions of Gex Ironeye of Airabis in the Frozen North. Were it not for the valiant King Roland the First of Lumdoria all civilization would have been destroyed many years ago. Having united the nations of Eromey under a single Alliance he had the strength to hold back the vast Orcish Hordes and their assortment of vile abominations.
The dark pass of death had been the stage of conflict for many years as endless waves of monstrosities broke against the stead fast shields of men. The war had been hard on Eromey and King Roland came to realise that even with this Alliance they would not be able to hold out forever.
Yoshi, the son of one of King Roland’s most powerful captains, had always been a great champion amongst his friends. Fighting to protect them from vicious monsters, such as Farmer Jonas’s Pigs and the mighty Tree that Kidnaps Kittens. His lifelong friend Mouse had always been there to keep him out of any real trouble, although Yoshi would not be easily swayed from a new adventure.
Yoshi and his mother lived on their farm whilst their valiant father fought in the war on the front. He was finally due back to start his three month leave. Upon his return however he broke the terrible news to his wife that he could only stay for only one month as the front was failing against the Hordes. Overhearing the heart breaking news, while snooping on his parents after bed time, Yoshi was filled with a sense of helplessness as he longed to assist in the battle to protect his home.
Tharon found his sons taste for adventure refreshing and decided to encourage him by sending the boy on little quests to do various tasks around town. One of these adventures was to fetch milk from the store in town and assist at least one old lady in at the market.
Yoshi took this job very seriously as the great Captain Tharon had issued it to him and so he stood outside the stalls all day awaiting someone in need of his help. Finally Old mistress Hartley had arrived and Yoshi promptly sprang to action as he assisted her in her shopping.
It had already been dark when Yoshi returned home and on his way he wondered past the old Inn, where he saw an Elderly robed fellow with a large staff get overrun by stumbling drunks exiting the establishment. Yoshi quickly ran to assist but was rudely cast aside after which the old man walked off briskly.
He watched the rude old man stride off into the distance. Then he noticed a rolled up piece of parchment that had been dropped. Yoshi investigated to find that it resembled a map with instructions to find a hidden treasure named the Wappets.
Yoshi ran home at full speed to show his father the unbelievable find as he was sure that he would discover some extraordinary help that might ensure victory for them at the front. Upon his arrival home he gasped for air as he was attempting to tell his parents what he had found.
The reaction puzzled young Yoshi as his parents were upset that he had stayed out so late and dismissed his map as a child’s item that could not be taken seriously. The young boy could not understand why his parents weren’t as excited about the idea as he was and so he took it upon himself to set out to find the treasure that he believed would save the world.
The next day Yoshi spoke to Mouse telling her what had happened and that he would go out in search of the treasure. She insisted that he stayed and tried to reason with him that it was madness. After a heated debate Yoshi returned home and began preparations for the quest he was about to embark on.
That evening he snuck out into the night and started his journey with a full backpack worthy of a true hero. He had even taken one of his father’s magically imbued short swords and a small shield for protection. He was no longer Yoshi the Pig Fighter, he was now Yoshi, the Hero.
Mouse intercepted Yoshi to reason with him a final time but after she realised that there would be no discouraging him this time she decided to accompany him. She pulled a fully packed backpack from behind a bush, as she knew that he would not be stopped, and the two started their adventure.
After three days of travel the two youngsters arrived at the first orientation points marked on the map. Yoshi had a local map of the landscape he had confiscated from his father’s study, which he had been using to reference the points on the treasure map.
The map had led them to a colossal fang shaped rock deep in the nearby mountains and upon arrival they found an elderly man with a robe and large walking stick awaiting them. The man seemed agitated to see Yoshi as the two immediately recalled where they had last met. The old man identified himself as Irrus the Sorcerer and insisted the map belonged to him. Yoshi refused to return the map to the old man claiming he required it to save the world. Irrus was not impressed and again demanded that it be returned. He begun to conjure a large fireball and hurled it at the two. Yoshi protected himself and Mouse by deflecting the spell with his father’s shield. They ran for their lives as they escaped a second attack.
The two now found themselves in a dire predicament as they fought off summoned monsters that the sorcerer had sent out to track them down. Yoshi and Mouse arrived at the second landmark to find a large troll guarding the runes of an ancient city. After discussing the trolls function as guard of a former city and convincing him of its futility the troll wonderd off in search on a new job that might not be as pointless.
Within the ruins they discovered a wall painting telling the story of mighty beasts of war that kept this city safe for centuries, until an evil ruler had schemed his way into power and the beasts’ masters had decided to hide their most valuable treasure from the mad king. The mural warned that any who search for it would be destroyed by fire and only the worthy adventurer would be allowed access.
Shortly after their arrival Irrus tracked them to the city. Not making his presence known he followed the two, allowing them to lead him straight to the hidden cache of treasure. Irrus sent a message to the Orcish Warlord Gex that all was going according to plan and insisted he would deliver the new addition to the Orcish horde within the week.
After two more land marks and challenges they arrived at the cave that would hold the prize they had set out to find. They felt the sense of achievement rise in them as nearly two weeks of travel had finally brought them to the conclusion of their quest.
Moments later they found themselves unable to move. The devious Irrus had cast a spell of holding on them and approached with a in an arrogant swagger that would of made him seem noble if it were not for his clear vileness. Patronising the young children and educating them on the meaninglessness of their attempts to stop evil from overrunning the world, he informs them of his involvement with the Orcish Warlord.
Unknown to the pompous Sorcerer the holding spell had a severely reduced effect on young Yoshi due to the magically imbued sword at his side. As Irrus passed close to Yoshi he received a stunning blow to the head thanks to his heavy shield. Disorientated and knocked prone Irrus was unable to resist Yoshi as he promptly tied the old man to a tree. Realizing this will merely serve to slow down the sorcerer Yoshi grabbed Mouse and charged into the cave.
Three challenges awaited the adventures inside as they fought against time to save their own lives. A test of dexterity required them to navigate a hostile maze covered with traps. A test of loyalty required them to choose between their own lives and that of their families. And finally a riddle challenged their purity of heart, resolve and wit.
Yoshi and Mouse stood in awe as a seemingly endless cave stretched forth in front of them. The entire place magically lit up as if in response to their presence. Massive magical eggs filled the room. Yoshi touched a green egg spotted with red and was instantly startled by its response. The egg began to hatch and an adorable little fire lizard crawled from within the broken shell.
Yoshi felt an instant bond with the little creature and adopted it as his companion, naming it Blitz. Blitz playfully ran around the cave befriending Mouse and Yoshi further. Mouse touched a purple egg spotted with pink. From it emerged a graceful fighter fish which Mouse named Bubbles. Bubbles and Mouse instantly connected, it would have seemed that the pets had a natural instinct to absorb their parent’s personalities.
After a brief moment of playful frolicking the two came to the realization that the evil sorcerer was still outside. They had thought that whatever they would find in the cave would help them defeat Irrus. Unfortunately it seemed obvious that these beasts were merely youngsters like themselves that would not yet be ready for the fight.
Yoshi drew his father’s sword and announced that he and Mouse will just have to fend off Irrus at any cost. They had be brave and protect their new friends. He began to march outside to confront the enemy.
Irrus had already broken free from his restraints when Yoshi and Mouse came out with their adorable new pets. The sorcerer laughed at them as he realized they were planning a frontal assault. Irrus conjured a fireball and cast it at young Yoshi. Blitz jumped up to block the fire ball and retaliated with a massive flame blast that blew the sorcerer off his feet.
After a hard and long battle with Blitz, Irrus finally realized that there would be no victory for him there and disappeared leaving a puff of smoke. Yoshi and Mouse still astonished by Blitz’s ability to defeat this powerful sorcerer began to celebrate and praise their new friends. They had found the solution to the war. They had found the way to beat the evil that threatened their world.
The two friends had sat down to eat lunch before departing back home when Tharon arrived after days of tracking them down. Enraged and happy to see his son he had to fight his emotions not to break into tears at the sight of him. After hearing the story of their adventure Tharon entered the cave to view the magnificent find. Tharon opened an egg containing an eagle that immediately embraces him as commander. Tharon named it Valian.
The three set off to the front to bring the news of their discovery to King Roland. Upon their arrival they saw the encampment under attack and engaged in battle with their pets to fend off the hordes of attacking Orcs. After the battle was won they presented themselves to the king and explained the situation. The King was fascinated and instantly departed to see the location of the cave. Upon arrival the King took on a pet for himself and commanded every member of the party that accompanied him to do the same.
The King decreed that the pets were to be incorporated in to the Royal army and that they were to be distributed across the land to those worthy, no matter what their age so that heroes might master them and battle against the invasion.
